Photography Group 2 was formed in May 2016 following on from the success of the initial photography group - which was fully subscribed. We meet on the last Friday of each month and enjoy various outings which are then followed by an indoor meeting to review the photos taken over several trips.
Our July 2026 Outing was to the iconic Lancing College Chapel which was built in the mid 19th Century in the Gothic Style. The college and chapel were created by Nathaniel Woodard who also established a number of other schools for the education of middle class England, including Hurstpierpoint and Ardingly locally. The magnificent Rose Window in the Chapel depicts the coats of arms of all the Woodard Schools.

In June 2026 we visited the historic Newhaven Fort which was built in the19th Century and is the largest military structure in Sussex - it was built using 6 million bricks and was the first such building to use concrete in its construction. Having been in active use during both World Wars it finally fell quite when the Artillery Regiment moved out in 1956. Following years of gradual decline it was the recipient of a £7.5m restoration grant recently and has much to offer regarding the role it played in coastal defence, its use for artillery training and, many other aspects of that era. Â

We set off for our April 2026 outing, after enjoying a nice cuppa in the cyclists cafe in Hassocks, for the nearby Butchers Wood, which enjoys a good display of bluebells each year set amongst pleasant woodland ; we then continued on to Clayton with its lovely 11th-century Anglo-Saxon Church, which is renowned for its 12th -century medieval wall paintings.Â
